Although a bit awkward from an angle or two, the 2012 Jeep Compass can now be described as relatively attractive but a little conservative. The inside, when compared to the refreshing that Chrysler provided for the Dodge Journey in 2011, is reasonably nipped and tucked but certainly feels completed on a particular budget.
Unfortunately with the changes in appearance there is no better change in performance or refinement. It has standard horsepower of 158 and four-cylinder (2.0-liter) engine – a hp of 172 (2.4-liter) is recommended as it make significant difference in the torque as can be felt in the Compass, particularly off the line. A standard manual 5-speed transmission is accepted but the 2012 Jeep Compass Achilles Heel still has CVT (continuously variable automatic transmission) which is slow for revs and to regular demands or simply sure acceleration out of close corners. Because of the CVT, the engine tends to be loud, rough and prone to vibration.
2012 Jeep Compass Sport Base versions have front-wheel drive. Even though the option of Freedom Drive II choice is essential for anyone who wants the capability of all-wheel-drive for mud or snow, the Freedom Drive II mechanism give the vehicle a certain off-road capability that is extraordinary in crossovers that are small. Because of this, the Compass gets the badge for being Jeep Trail rated, carrying a transaxle continuously-variable which works in the mode of off-road, ride height that is one-inch ride height that is higher, skid plates as well as a spare that is full-sized.
The interior of the Compass works well for adults although the seats seem short and lack support. In the back, there is adequate headspace for majority of adults even though the legroom is a little tight. The bench is one of the flattest and hardest ever tested. Also, the cabin of the Compass is not really developed in other ways; for instance, it is kind of too soft when it comes to corners but too pitchy on rough pavement. While 2012 Jeep Compass has included additional noise insulation, these versions still have an exceptional level of noise from the engine during acceleration. However, the interior is organized and has a good amount of modern features.
